On a sunny Saturday, July 27, 2024, the soccer fields at Starfire Sports in Tukwila buzzed with energy and excitement as the annual SCORES Cup kicked off. This much-anticipated event, presented by America SCORES Seattle, brought together over 200 employees from 22 corporations in the Greater Seattle Area for a day of friendly competition, all in the name of supporting underserved youth in our community.

A Day of Fun, Soccer, and Poetry

The SCORES Cup is more than just a soccer tournament; it's a celebration of community and corporate philanthropy. Teams from well-known companies like Deloitte, Microsoft, the One Roof Foundation/Seattle Kraken, Chewy, and the Seattle Art Museum took a break from their boardrooms to compete in 6 v 6 coed soccer matches. From 9 AM to 3:30 PM, the fields were alive with the sounds of cheering supporters, the thrill of the game, and the occasional poetic interlude as participants were invited to create their own poetry throughout the day.

The Impact of the SCORES Cup

America SCORES Seattle stands out as the only local nonprofit providing after-school programs that blend soccer, creative writing, and community service for over 360 Title 1 elementary school students in Seattle and South Seattle neighborhoods. Events like the SCORES Cup are crucial in raising the funds necessary to keep these impactful programs running.

As the soccer matches progressed, it was clear that the spirit of teamwork extended beyond the fields. The collaboration and camaraderie seen among the corporate teams mirrored the values that America SCORES Seattle instills in its youth participants. This connection between teamwork in sports and success in education is at the heart of what America SCORES Seattle aims to teach.

Champions of the Day

The excitement peaked during the championship trophy presentations, held at 2:30 PM and 3:30 PM. Teams battled it out not just for the love of the game, but for the honor of being named the SCORES Cup champions. The trophies symbolized more than victory; they represented a community coming together to make a tangible difference in the lives of young people. Congratulations to Lockton and Rover.com on your wins.

Looking Ahead

As the day concluded and participants and spectators alike began to disperse, there was a palpable sense of accomplishment and unity. The SCORES Cup highlighted the power of sport and creativity to bring people together and support a common cause.

For those who couldn't make it to this year's event, there's always next year. In the meantime, the work of America SCORES Seattle continues. To learn more about their programs and how you can get involved, visit http://www.americascoresseattle.org.
